Support Q&A

Since we recently sent out a support letter to a few friends and family members, we have received a few questions.  I knew people would have questions, but I didn’t want to make our letter 12 pages long to address them all, so I will do my best to answer them here.  If you have any additional questions, please email us at meehanfive@gmail.com.

 

Q:  When should we start our support?

A:  That is up to you.  If you start now, it will count towards our cash budget and then our monthly budget once we’re overseas.  If you want to wait to start until we’re closer to leaving, that is fine, too.  Please do send in the commitment form or fill in the online form by May, though, so we know what we’re working with budget wise.  We won’t be cleared to leave until our budget is raised!

 

Q:  Would you prefer a cash donation up front or a monthly pledge?

A:  They’re both great.  We have two budgets to raise…a cash budget that will cover things like our training, our air fare, tuition for our kids, etc… and a monthly pledge budget to raise that will cover things like our rent, our groceries, health insurance and utilities.

 

Q:  Are donations tax deductible?

A:  Absolutely!  Your donations will run through Assemblies of God World Missions and they will send you a receipt for tax purposes each year.

 

Q:  If we make a monthly pledge, how long do we need to commit for?

A:  The short answer is two years.  If $ doesn’t come in, we don’t get $.  Our budget is low and it will be tight, so please don’t make a monthly pledge if you already know you can’t commit to it for at least two years (depending on when you start giving).  Of course, things come up and people can’t keep up their pledge and we understand that.  If that happens, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can rework our budget rather than come up short unexpectedly.

 

Q:  What percentage of your budget have you already raised?

A:  This number is hard to come up with accurately, but by our best calculations we are 20% of the way into our itineration schedule and we have raised just a little over 20% of our budget.

 

Not to be a broken record, but if you are considering making a donation to our journey into missions, THANK YOU!  We appreciate every dime that comes in and we know that money is tight for a lot of people, especially this time of year.  Just know that we appreciate your sacrifice and we believe that God will do great things in Ethiopia (and beyond) with your generosity.  Please don’t forget to pray for our family either.  Again, if you have any other questions, please let us know.  We are happy to answer them all.
